His physical body always served as a limitation, a significant obstacle in his pursuit of love. For him, death was not an end but rather a new beginning. To achieve a state of meditation, he would engage in a spinning ritual, conveying the love of God to humanity. This spinning act was a form of worship, although it had no prescribed rules. Following Mevlana's passing, his son established guidelines for the ceremony and established dervish lodges in Konya.
Today, you will have the opportunity to witness this ceremony in a caravansary. It's not just a chance to observe the ceremony but also to visit a caravansary dating back to the 13th century. A caravansary was a building constructed along the Silk Road to provide rest and meet the needs of caravans. It remained in use until Columbus discovered a more affordable and shorter sea route as an alternative trade route. Consequently, many caravansaries were abandoned and eventually fell into disrepair. However, this particular caravansary has been restored and now serves as a venue for dervish ceremonies.
